Andrew "The Boy" Choi

Andrew Choi joined The Gregory School during the second semester of the last school year and came from Pusch Ridge. He says, “Gregory is a lot more challenging” and that there are fewer classes he deems useless and unhelpful.

But, he says he doesn’t care about which school he came from previously, and he sure seems to enjoy being here at TGS. He cites Mrs. Young’s AP English class as his favorite class this year and is looking at going to the University of Arizona. When asked about what he wants to major in, he simply says ¨something with science or math.”

This year, Andrew also took the role of the announcer at a number of school basketball games as an internship. He remembers being very anxious the first time he announced but used the classic advice of “picturing everyone naked¨ and powered through in strides.

He has not participated in many school-involved activities besides being an announcer. He has, however, just joined the golf team. I asked him if he was any good and he answered: “Eh, never played it.” He is very excited for the season.

I also asked him to describe himself. He said: “Andrew is a very rambunctious character at the ping pong table. He will go all the way. He does not take shortcuts but will take time to explain everything in bright detail. He illuminates.”

Back at the ping pong table, where I interviewed Andrew, he blurts: “They call me the powerhouse of the cell.” There is noticeable confusion around the table, but the silence is interrupted by him yelling: “MITOCHONDRIA!”

Andrew described a defining feature of this school as being academically challenging. His classes this year and during his semester last year can perfectly illuminate this and he constantly challenges himself, while at the same time being one of the most lovable characters on campus.
