Boys Basketball 2019-2020 Season

The Gregory School boy’s basketball team enters the 2019-2020 season with a new look. After winning the state tournament last season, the team is ready to try its best to bring home another championship.

There are many new players this year: Fabian Escobedo, Vincent Edwards, Renz Iurino, and senior Avi Sanan. According to Josiah Prior, the team’s captain, talks about a new member of the team in particular: “Avi has been playing soccer for his whole life, and it might be a struggle for him to transfer back over to basketball.” Even though the team is young, they will try their best to succeed this season.

This season is going to be a little tougher for the Hawks compared to last year since they lost some excellent players. However, the team still feels confident. Junior Kasey Lapan said “I feel as if we are definitely a top-three team in 1A basketball along with Fort Thomas and Boboquivari, we aren’t going to be able to just run over everyone we play with talent and athleticism like last year but I think we still have a really solid, smart, well-coached group with some talent.” Josiah also considers Fort Thomas to be their toughest opponent this season.

Josiah is happy about the size of the team, as there are 15 players. It will be a little hard for them to be split into Junior Varsity and Varsity, but it will eventually work out. The team is confident and excited about this season and as a student body, we should support them in every way we can!
