Swim Team

Updated: Sep 13, 2019

This year’s swim team is small but mighty. With the graduation of the seniors last year, we lost three swimmers: Jillian Cassius, Lora Calonje, and Isabel Ferreira. Do not fret, we have four new swimmers that joined this season.

First up, Remington Stagg, a freshman new to The Gregory School this year, is replacing Isabel, our former long-distance swimmer, as well as Lora, last year’s butterfly swimmer. Next, Phillip Donelson, a new sophomore this year, is swimming the freestyle event.

Stryder Rodenberg is no stranger to The Gregory School, and even though he has shin splints on both legs, he is still a member of the swim team. Sadly, he won’t be able to compete at any meets due to his injuries.

Ana Martinez is a returning sophomore and swimmer who will be swimming backstroke at competitions, stepping in for last year’s backstroke swimmer, Jillian. Another new swimmer this year is Mason Davis, also swimming freestyle events.

Michael Pisetsky is the last swimmer on the team. He is a sophomore and a returning swimmer from last year. Michael will be swimming the same events as last year: freestyle sprints.

The team practices Monday through Thursday, every week, at the Tucson Racquet Club. They are instructed by Coach Brad Vanek who was the captain of his own high school swim team and a French and chess teacher here at The Gregory School.

The swim team has frequent meets throughout the season and are in need of volunteer timers to help with the meets. At these meets, it would be wonderful for people to come out and support the team during their respective events.
