Many members of our campus are well aware of the River and Craycroft shopping center just north of The Gregory School. Most people go there to eat at Whole Foods, but there is also a delicious sushi restaurant in the center called Sushi Zona.
Since we got there right when it opened, there was no wait time to be seated. The staff was polite and we were swiftly presented with delicious miso soup and edamame. Since the restaurant is known for their sushi rolls, we decided to exclusively order sushi. We chose the Volcano Roll, Fire Roll, and the Crunchy Tokyo Roll.
The Volcano Roll’s plating was its most stunning attribute. The roll was formed in a circle around a cyclone swirl of sauce. The warm tuna combined with the fresh, cold rice made it a pleasure to eat. However, we ranked this roll at third place out of the three rolls we tried because it lacked any extraordinary qualities.
The Fire Roll takes second place on our list. This was a great choice to open up our meal. It packed a bit more heat than the Volcano Roll. With two different spicy sauces on top, it had a heavy taste without being too strong. Underneath the sauces was more of a traditional tuna roll, that would have been much less unique if it was served by itself. The toppings and sauces tied the roll together.
Taking first place is the Crunchy Tokyo Roll. This roll contained fried shrimp, which added great texture that the other rolls lacked. The crunch, the tuna on top, and the rice in the middle created a variety of tasteful sensations. To top it all off, it was drizzled with a sweet eel sauce. Every piece was perfectly balanced, and all of the ingredients seemed to blend seamlessly into one another.
This restaurant is definitely worth a visit. Since Sushi Zona is so close to school, you should definitely check it out (and make sure to order the Crunchy Tokyo Roll).
