Hebrew high is an alternative language program run by the Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona. Every Tuesday night from 5:00 - 8:45, students of Hebrew High meet at Tucson Hebrew Academy.
During their stay at Hebrew High, students are placed based on Hebrew knowledge and separated accordingly. There are three Hebrew Teachers: Eve, Jesse, and Rita. Dinner is served at 6:30 and ends at 7:00, usually consisting of egg and tuna salad; in total honesty, it’s not much to look forward to.
Not all schools accept Hebrew High for credit, but fortunately, The Gregory School is one of the few schools that do. The bulk of your time at Hebrew High will be spent studying Hebrew in a classroom, however, the last 45 minutes is reserved for activities with this year’s shinshinim.
The shinshinim are part of a program in Israel where two Israeli teenagers come to Tucson for a year before their military service. Our shinshiniot this year are named Shay and Danielle. They are great people and prepare extremely fun activities for our last 45 minutes.
Since Hebrew High offers a language credit, there is no obligation to take a language class offered by The Gregory School. This opens the way for another free block or another class you might be interested in.
All in all, the Hebrew High community is very welcoming and it is a great opportunity to learn a less mainstream language.
