There's no question that there has been a change at our school. We haven't seen Ms. Babbitt around campus as often! Upper school student council hasn’t seen her; 8th graders and 10th graders taking the PSAT haven’t seen her either. What could she be doing?
The seniors saw her during their internship presentations and her French 1 class still sees her before lunch. However, mischievous students don’t see her anymore and she is never in her office to the right of the front desk. So what has Ms.Babbit been doing these past few months?
It all started in December when Mr. Paul Forkner, TGS’s Director of Finance since August 2018, announced the big news that he was moving back to Virginia. Since he left, Dr. Julie Sherrill was looking for someone to replace him, but not just anyone. Instead of having to constantly interview and try to hire new employees for the job, Dr. Sherrill was searching for a trustworthy and equally hardworking person to take on the position.
If there is a person at this school who could handle this kind of challenge, it would be Ms. Babbitt. As we all know, Ms. Babbitt takes on a huge amount of responsibility here at TGS from teaching her own French class, to running student council as the dean of students, all the way to standardized testing and summer programs. Who is more dedicated to our school than Ms. Babbitt?
Thankfully, lots of teachers have stepped forward to assist Ms. Babbitt with this big adjustment. Dr. Adams has kindly volunteered to take care of student council and is doing a great job. Ms. Hubman has also started to advise standardized testing. Ms. Babbitt has already put together the summer program here at TGS, Minds Alive, and believes it’s ready to go.
Ms. Babbitt states she “was not expecting this position change at all.” One regret that Ms. Babbitt mentioned about obtaining her new position is that she wishes she could be around students more and is glad to still teach a class. However, Ms. Babbitt concludes, “I am always happy to help the school in any way.”
