Sophie Bergentino, Maddie Richardson, and Macy Casper-Milam

Updated: Dec 2, 2019

I had the pleasure of sitting down and chatting with Sophie Bergantino, Maddie Richardson, and Macy Casper about their friendship, hobbies, how senior year is going so far, and plans after graduation. The girls let me in on their crazy, exciting, and stressful last year before adulthood.

Sophie, as Macy describes her, is “very dependable, caring, and wicked smart.” She became apart of The Gregory School Family in seventh grade. The first person Sophie met when she shadowed the school was Maddie and they have been inseparable ever since. Sophie is a very creative student who enjoys photography. You can find her hanging out at a friend’s house or shopping during her free time.

Macy and Sophie giggled as they listed some of Maddie’s unique traits.

“Three ways to describe Maddie would have to be addicted to cold brew, incredibly sweet, and [incredibly] loyal”.

Both girls agreed that upon joining the school, Maddie made them feel very welcomed and cared for. She has a signature fashion sense consisting of cute oversized sweatshirts and Birkenstocks. Similar to Sophie, in her spare time she loves to spend time with friends on the weekends.

Although Macy started at The Gregory School last school year, she has already made a tight-knit group of friends and become an important part of life on campus. Maddie and Sophie had no problem expressing some of her best qualities as, “always knowing ‘what’s up,’ being extremely intelligent, thinking things through logically, and caring.” Sophie recalled the first time she saw Macy at school: “I remember being in psych last year and I saw Macy walk by with Ms. Babbit and I texted Maddie, I was like ‘oh my god, there’s this new girl and I think she’s in our grade. She is really, really pretty.’ And I wanted to meet her so I went to Ms. Encila’s room and introduced myself.” Macy has a diverse list of extracurricular activities from choir to boxing. You can spot her by looking for her beautiful blue hair.

When asked how senior year was going so far, all the girls broke out into laughter. When they composed themselves Maddie finally said, “I think senior year is going well. I think a lot of the people in our grade have meshed together really well and the new kids feel comfortable. I feel like it’s going to be an easy year socially”.

Sophie adds that as time-consuming as college applications are, there is significantly less work than last year.

Macy agreed and mentioned: “The biggest problem right now is the stress that all the seniors are having with college apps and how the deadlines are coming up. Compared to last year, college apps were something you had to do in a year but now if you don’t get them done within a month, you're not going to college!”

Afterward, the trio reminisced about how fun interim week was this year and some of their best memories together. They all determined that their favorite memory was the time school was canceled, and they all went to Sauce to have a huge group lunch together.

To wrap up the conversation, I asked the girls what their plans for college were. Everyone was already pretty set on what they wanted. Sophie is drawn to the University of Wisconsin and would like to major in something involving communications. Maddie hopes to attend Smith College and major in either public health, public policy, or international relations with a minor in foreign languages. Macy wants to go to the University of Washington and major in criminal social justice and hopefully go on a study abroad for a couple of years in Europe or Africa.

Wherever their path takes them, Sophie, Maddie, and Macy all have bright futures ahead of them. Graduating high school is just the beginning of their journey.
