TGS Club Profiles

TGS offers a large variety of clubs, in both the high school and middle school. However, we at the Chant feel that many of the students aren’t aware of all these options. The clubs that make announcements at meetings tend to be the only clubs people know about. Below are descriptions of some of the lesser-known clubs, but these are only a few out of the 20 clubs offered.

High school clubs:

Book Club

Book Club, overseen by Mrs. Young and Ms. Langan-Peck and organized by Jaden Ackerman, Michael Pisetsky, and Ashling Lee, is TGS’ newest club. The goal of this club is like most other book clubs: to read and discuss the current book (with snacks, of course). Its purpose is to encourage students to find time for reading outside of classes.

TGS Chapter of the National Junior Classical League

The National Junior Classical League is an organization in which teams of students compete at the local, state, and national levels in classical trivia. The TGS Chapter of NCL is run by Mr. Carlson and Drew Messing. During meetings, the club meets up with Quiz Bowl to practice trivia and occasionally attends lectures on classical history.

Running Club

Running Club (which is different than track) is run by Mr. Kelly Thompson and Marco Manzo. The purpose of this club is not only to provide a space to run but also to inform runners about the sport. The club strives to create a space for runners that is less intense and requires less commitment than a sport.

SEAL Club

Student Enhancing Athletic Leadership (SEAL) Club, run by Coach E, Leo Grunstein, Josiah Prior, and Eunice Ineza, strives to create a school environment where the student body is more supportive of the school sports. Their main goals are to draw a larger crowd to games, fundraise for the athletic department, and publicize the school.

Middle School Clubs:

Chess Club

Both before and after school, students can join Mr. Vanek in the library to play chess (all levels are welcome!). If they are interested, students can join the club in the occasional local and state chess competitions.

Game Club

After a short hiatus, Game Club has been restored by Macy Head. Supervised by Ms. Patton, students meet in the middle school office every Wednesday after school. There, they spend their time playing the variety of board games available.

Dungeons and Dragons Club

Dungeons and Dragons Club, run by Ms. Ely and Ms. A Cain, meets every Wednesday after school. Students spend their time playing Dungeons and Dragons (hence the name), a popular role-playing and story-telling game. Students are able to choose one of many characters to be as they complete quests and levels.
